- This is the MAXI-READ import test file called MAXITEXT. It was
- created in standard ASCII format by a word processor. Therefore,
- it does NOT have to be "stripped" by *MAXI-READ.
-
- A little about *MAXI-READ. *MAXI-READ evaluates the 'readability'
- or 'understandability' of your message by analyzing its complexity.
- *Complexity is HIGH when sentences contain many words. *Complexity
- is also high when you use long, *SESQUIPELALIAN WORDS (words with
- many syllables). *MAXI-READ also help you analyze the style of your
- writing. That is, is it "personalized" by the use of personal pronouns.
- Or is it low in personal words, having a more formal style.
-
- A sample of 100-200 words (about 12 lines) should be enough. But you can
- analyze as much as you like. We suggest you enter no more than 500 words.
- If you want an analysis of a long piece, consider this. The results may be
- more valid if, instead of analyzing 1 LARGE sample, you analyze 2-3
- samples of 100-200 words each. Then just average the results.
-
- *MAXI-READ will analyze your message and give you several measures of
- readability. These measures include the FLESCH INDEX, the AVERAGE # OF
- SYLLABLES PER WORD, and the GRADE LEVEL. Text written at about the
- 8-10TH GRADE LEVEL is appropriate for many adult audiences.
-
- If you're wondering why some words have asterisks (*) in front of them,
- they're used to control analyses of frequently used, but long words. For
- more information on this feature, read the section of the Manual that
- talks about Controlling the Analyses of long, *Sesquipedalian words.
-
- Analyzing this with *MAXI-READ should show it has 24 sentences, 307 words,
- the FLESCH INDEX = 72, and the GRADE LEVEL = 8. Since this is a test file,
- you might want to write these numbers down. Then press a key and compare
- them to the *MAXI-READ results you get.
